The Huia Settlers Museum is situated at the heart of Huia in the beautiful Karamatura Valley. with its back drop of rugged bush clad hills and steep rocky bluffs.
Our wonderful collection includes: Maori artefacts, domestic items, agricultural tool, sawmilling equipment, marine items, photographs, documents & much more.
The Huia Settlers Museum was officially opened on March 10th 1984, following two years of planning, negotiation, fund raising, collecting and eventually building. It is wholly built, maintained and administered by the local community for the social and cultural benefit of the district and as a memorial to the early pioneers settler families of the Huia. The Museum was established to collect, preserve and display items the represent the way of life of the early settlers of the Huia and surrounding districts of the Waitakere Ranges and Manukau shoreline. Also to be a reminder to later generations of how people lived and worked in those early days.
